Born in Ankara, Turkey, Ahmet went to France and later to Egypt to study classical percussion techniques, later developing his own personal style. Cairo insiders all know Ahmet from his performances with Sharkiyat, the ethno jazz group of Fathi Salama. When he came back to Turkey, the Turks nicknamed him "Misirli Ahmet".
